Aluminum Fencing in Monroe, NC

Ornamental aluminum fencing for Monroe pools, front yards and HOA neighborhoods, with the look of iron and none of the rust.

Aluminum fencing is the fence you put up when you want a boundary without a wall. It keeps kids, dogs and guests where they belong, but you can still see the yard, the pool or the view across a pond. It looks like wrought iron from the street, it won't rust, and it has no wood to rot in our humid summers. That combination is why it shows up so often around pools and along the fronts of homes in Monroe's newer subdivisions.

Where aluminum fencing works best

  • Around pools. A see-through fence keeps sight lines open so you can watch the water. Many styles can be set up to meet common pool barrier requirements.
  • Front yards and corner lots. Open fencing defines the yard without blocking the house, which many HOAs want facing the street.
  • Backyards with a view. Open space, woods or a pond stay visible.
  • Sloped lots. Many aluminum panels can be racked to follow a gentle slope, which looks cleaner than big stair-steps.

Common aluminum fence choices

  • Height. Four feet and five feet are common. Pool areas often need a minimum height, so check local rules.
  • Picket spacing. Tighter spacing is better for small dogs and pool areas.
  • Top style. Flat top, pressed spear, or a finial on top.
  • Color. Black is by far the most common, with bronze and white also available.
  • Gates. Walk gates, double drive gates, and self-closing, self-latching gates for pools.

Pool fence checklist

If the fence is going around a pool, sort these out early:

  1. Check local pool barrier rules and your HOA rules. Requirements such as height, gaps and gate hardware vary, so confirm what applies to your property.
  2. Plan the gates. Pool gates commonly need to be self-closing and self-latching and open away from the pool. The installer should plan hardware to match the rules that apply.
  3. Look at the house side. Doors and windows that open onto the pool area can matter under some rules.
  4. Time it with the pool build. The barrier often has to be in place before the pool is used, so schedule the fence early.
  5. Get the permit sorted. The contractor usually checks what is required and pulls it as part of the job.

How it's installed

Aluminum posts are set in concrete at proper depth for Union County clay, then panels are attached with brackets. The goal is a level top line and even gaps at the bottom, which matters around pools and for small pets. Gate posts are set heavier so a long gate doesn't sag. Most residential aluminum fences take one to three days to install once materials arrive.

What it costs

Aluminum usually costs more up front than wood or chain link, and it skips the staining and painting for good. The price depends on footage, height, picket spacing, style and slope. Gates are priced separately, and pool hardware and wide drive gates cost the most. We don't publish prices because every lot is different. Is aluminum right for you?

Choose aluminum if you want a see-through fence, low maintenance and a finished look. If you need full privacy, a wood privacy fence or vinyl fencing is the better match. If you need an inexpensive dog run or a utility area, chain link fencing costs less.

What a good installer won't do

A good installer won't tell you a pool fence "meets code" without checking what applies to your property, and won't skip the self-closing hardware on a pool gate to save a few dollars. A pool gate that doesn't close by itself defeats the point of the fence.

They also won't leave a big gap under the bottom rail on uneven ground. On lumpy or sloped spots, the crew adjusts the panels so the gap stays even and small pets can't squeeze under.

Questions people ask

Is aluminum fencing strong enough for dogs?

For most dogs, yes. The key is picket spacing and the gap at the bottom. Small dogs can slip through wide spacing, so we recommend asking for tighter picket spacing or a puppy picket section if you have a small breed. Strong jumpers may need a taller fence.

Does aluminum fencing rust?

Aluminum doesn't rust the way steel or iron does. The powder-coated finish protects it and keeps the color. Scratches can be touched up, and the fence doesn't need painting the way an iron fence does.

What height does a pool fence need to be?

Requirements vary, so check local rules and your HOA before you buy anything. The installer should confirm what applies to your property and build the fence and gates to match.

Can aluminum fence follow a sloped yard?

Many aluminum panels can be racked to follow a gentle slope. Steeper slopes may need stepped panels. The installer looks at your grade during the free estimate and shows you how the fence will sit.
